As the oldest, four-year, private, liberal arts institution in eastern N.C., Barton College welcomes 1,300 students each year to its 62-acre campus. Founded in 1902, Barton has focused in recent years on facility renovations, building and programming. Barton is recognized for its campus-wide information technology network and, with recent upgrades, students have network access from their residence hall rooms in addition to 125 computer stations on campus.

Barton awards six baccalaureate degrees and 29 majors within five schools - Arts and Sciences, Behavioral Sciences, Business, Education, and Nursing. The School of Education and School of Nursing continue to be ranked among the best in N.C. and the Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing program is one of the few available on the East Coast. Other highly successful programs include Business, Communications, Graphic Design, Photography, Religion, Social Work and Sports Medicine. Our newest programs include Audio Recording Technology, Criminal Justice and Criminology, Computer Information Systems and Special Education.

Operating on a semester calendar, Barton also offers a January Term that provides students with opportunities to pursue travel courses; in recent years students have visited Israel, Italy, Greece, Spain, Belize, England and Peru. Barton's student-centered core curriculum enhances academic success for freshmen through a concentrated seven-week delivery system.

Our Student Development staff and the Campus Activities Board continually provide thought-provoking programs and entertainment, and religious life programming offers opportunities for spiritual growth including worship, retreats, and fellowship groups.

Barton offers a number of Disciples-specific scholarships and children of ministers are eligible for up to a 20% tuition scholarship as determined by need. Religion majors may be eligible for significant scholarship assistance as well.
