Lynchburg College Lynchburg College is a private, coeducational college founded in 1903 in covenant with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) through a partnership between Josephus Hopwood, a minister and educator, and several Lynchburg business and church leaders. Throughout its history, the College has maintained strong commitments to the importance of the liberal arts and sciences as the basis for education, to a church relationship, to coeducation, and to being a residential community.

In addition to offerings in the traditional liberal arts and sciences the College also offers professional disciplines including education, business, communication studies and nursing. Academic programs include 39 majors, 40 minors, and 12 pre-professional programs. Students are encouraged to take advantage of internship, independent research, or student-faculty collaborative research opportunities.

Service to community is a core value at Lynchburg College. It's an essential part of who we are and what we do, whether it's collecting food for the Hunger Task Force, making a promotional video for a local animal shelter, or tutoring local children. Students and faculty volunteer more than 15,000 hours each year to many service projects in the greater Lynchburg community.

The College enrolls a diverse student body with its 2000 students coming from 33 states and 15 foreign countries. Approximately 14% of students are ethnic minorities or international.

Admission is selective based upon academic achievement and a personal interview is highly encouraged. The college has a very strong financial aid program based on need and achievement. Special support may be available for applicants committed to a career of religious service.

Lynchburg College is related by covenant to the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
