Disciples Divinity House at Vanderbilt supports Disciple students preparing for ministry at Vanderbilt University Divinity School. Masters of Divinity students receive tuition and housing assistance so that they can afford the benefits of education in an outstanding, ecumenical, university-based Divinity School, while living and learning in the smaller company of Disciple colleagues at the House.

A unique combination of factors makes DDH-Vanderbilt special:

  • A valued and significantly-sized ministry program reflects a commitment to the church and to an educated ministry;

  • A superb and diverse faculty, a great library, a rigorous curriculum, and a gifted student body reflect a commitment to the highest standards of inquiry in service of faith;

  • An exceptional group of 20-25 Disciple students, drawn by the Divinity School, offers hope for the church through their energy, creativity and commitment;

  • A residential learning community at the House, two blocks from campus, nurtures collegiality and strengthens Disciple identity;

  • An explicit commitment to inclusive ministries of the gospel, lived through a transformed and transformative church;

  • The Congregational Immersion Project, a Transition into Ministry effort funded by the Lilly Endowment, that places two students each year in ministry residencies in innovative Disciple congregations;

  • Annual "Wise Practice" events and other programs offering practical wisdom and skills for ministry, enhancing ability for leadership and faith lived in Christian congregations;

  • The nearby presence of the Disciples of Christ Historical Society, the Regional Center for Ministry, and interesting congregations and social justice ministries provide Disciple links as well as ample field education and employment opportunities.
The track record is impressive: over 500 men and women in faithful ministries in local congregations; in higher education; in regional, general, and international church work; and in social service ministries.
