Founded in 1701, Yale College was a place "wherein Youth...through the blessing of Almighty God may be fitted for Publick employment both in Church & Civil State." As a graduate and professional school of Yale University, we share the resources and responsibilities of the larger institution. At the same time, by being located on our own campus, the school welcomes and benefits from the diverse religious identities and academic quests within our own community.

Yale University Divinity School provides three degree programs: the Master of Divinity, the Master of Arts in Religion, and the Master of Sacred Theology. The Master of Divinity requires a three year course of study, including a supervised ministry assignment which prepares women and men for ministry, ordained or lay. The Master of Arts in Religion involved two years of study in a program of study designed by his or her advisor in preparation for doctoral study or for secular vocation in public or private areas of service. The Master of Sacred Theology provides one year of advanced theological study in a specific academic area for individuals with a Master of Divinity degree.

Members of the Divinity School faculty are prominent scholars in their academic disciplines and share a commitment to the School's mission: to prepare individuals for ordained and lay ministries in the Christian churches; to offer academic study in a University context; to contribute to shaping the role religion plays in America while providing theological literacy for leadership in the various sectors of society.
