The following scholarships are available to undergraduate students through HELM:

Higher Education and Leadership Ministries Leadership Fellows Program and Scholarship recognizes undergraduate students with potential for leadership in the church. Funded by donations to HELM’s scholarship fund, this program involves students at both Disciples colleges and other institutions. The Leadership Fellows Program includes connections with a mentor, annual leadership development retreats, and a global awareness experience. Students entering a four-year college from high school or community college are eligible for this $2,000 scholarship, which can be renewed up to four years. This program also covers the cost of the leadership retreat and global awareness trip.

Criteria:

  • Must submit a completed online application by the stated deadline of March 31, no exceptions.
  • Membership & active engagement in a Disciples of Christ congregation.
  • Enrolled in a full-time, college-level degree program.
  • Demonstrates church & civic involvements that are faith-based.
  • Demonstrates annual academic progress.
  • Must commit to the full four-year Leadership Fellows Program including attendance at annual retreats, cohort meetings, and the 3rd year global awareness experience.

First Christian Church of Burnet Texas Scholarship recognizes students actively engaged in their local congregation and who hold positions of leadership in the local, regional, and/or general church or campus ministry organizations. Particular preference is given to students who demonstrate both academic potential and financial need. Award amounts vary based on student demonstrated need.

Criteria: 

  • Must submit a completed online application by the stated deadline of March 31, no exceptions.
  • Membership and active engagement at First Christian Church, Burnet, TX or neighboring congregations.
  • Demonstrates leadership in local, regional, general church or campus ministry organization.
  • Demonstrates academic potential.
  • Demonstrates financial need.
  • Must submit academic transcript.
  • Must submit two References.

Hyde Park Christian Church - Alvin and Elsie East Scholarship recognizes students actively engaged in their local congregation and pursuing a college degree. Students must demonstrate church and civic activities manifesting a faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, including membership and active participation in a local church. Financial need must be clarified - it is not necessary to show dire financial need, but applicants should account for their financial need and show evidence of frugality in money management. Applicant shows a sense of responsibility in academic progress and will be able to achieve stated educational goals. The Applicant's academic record should be one which indicates potential success in college. Applications not available online at this time - please contact Hyde Park Christian Church.

The HELM Tougaloo College Scholarship Fund exists to benefit members of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) who are full-time students at Tougaloo College. The Fund was established as the Tougaloo College Scholarship Fund representing a commitment of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) to the development of African American Disciples leaders in Mississippi as was embodied by the Southern Christian Institute prior to its merger with Tougaloo. The endowment is owned and held by HELM on behalf of the church and in recognition of the church’s ongoing commitment to that stated purpose. Students are invited to apply for scholarships of up to $2,000 per semester of full-time enrollment at Tougaloo College.

  • Membership & active engagement in congregation
  • Enrolled as a fulltime student at Tougaloo College
  • Completes a brief essay on leadership
  • Demonstrates academic potential
  • Must submit academic transcript

The Phillips University Legacy Undergraduate Legacy Scholars Program is dedicated to developing leaders who transform the world by making higher education more accessible, affordable, and transformative. The Program provides renewable merit-based scholarship awards of up to $9000 annually, along with opportunities for leadership development, service, growth, and community to students across all faith and secular traditions attending Disciples-related colleges and universities. Since 2001, the Foundation has awarded over $3 million in scholarships to more than 300 students while providing opportunities for leadership development & community impact. Submission deadline is March 2025.

Criteria: 

  • Be enrolled at an eligible institution in the 2024-2025 school year full-time
  • Be a rising first-year or sophomore college student with at least three full years left in your college career
  • Be able and willing to participate fully in the program, including the Leadership Conference & Volunteer Leadership Project
  • While there is no GPA minimum, all applicants should hold a strong academic record along with outstanding recommendations
  • Show involvement and leadership roles that show a desire to learn, be challenged, and make a positive impact on their campuses and communities

The Disciples Leadership Program Scholarship is a  top-tier, competitive scholarship awarded to first-time Eureka College freshmen based on leadership, academic excellence, and the commitment to explore during college a life of faith-based servant leadership. DLP Fellows receive full tuition plus two on-site mentorships ($6,000 total combined, travel-related expenses) exploring service anywhere in the world. DOC students discerning a call to ordained ministry are encouraged to apply, but all qualified DOC students with exceptional leadership and service will be equally considered. Applicants chosen as DLP Fellows demonstrate the capacity to earn and maintain a college GPA above a 3.0. Fellows may choose any Major course of study, but a Religion/Philosophy Minor is required. On campus residency is required. Digital competition application deadline is October 11, 2024.

Criteria: 

  • The DLP competition is by invitation only for incoming Eureka College freshman
  • Must submit an Application for Admission and be admitted to Eureka College
  • Minimum cumulative high school GPA off 3.3 on a 4.0 scale
  • Be invited to complete the application for the DLP program competition
