Sam Wilkinson Reflection

Hello! My name is Sam, and I had the fantastic opportunity to attend the Global Awareness trip to Puerto Rico with HELM this summer! This trip did many things for me, but one thing stood out the most: despite the differences between the Disciples of Christ Church in the mainland United States and the Disciples of Christ Church in Puerto Rico, both communities worship and serve the same God, faithfully and lovingly. This was made evident in the way we crossed language and cultural barriers through worship and church services. This was also made evident in our many conversations with the DOC leaders in Puerto Rico. Their incredible hospitality, thoughtfulness, and attention to our circumstances, were truly something special. Lastly, it was made evident in our conversations with the Puerto Rican people we interacted with throughout our many adventures as a group. Whether we were in the rainforest, in the city of Old San Juan, or in any of the other locations we visited throughout Puerto Rico, we were always able to speak with, interact with, and share the love of God with the variety of people around us. This trip was an experience that I will remember for the rest of my life, and I am so incredibly grateful for the opportunity to attend this trip with HELM. Thank you!
